The former vice chancellor of Makerere University, and 2016 Presidential aspirant Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba, has pledged to give out smart phones to citizens around the country to help in the monitoring of the coming general elections.

Prof. Baryamureeba was yesterday meeting his supporters at Kizinda play ground in Bushenyi as part of his ongoing nationwide consultations for his candidacy.

He noted that smart phones with cameras could be used by voters to capture details of voting proceedings and this would help curb down vote rigging at polling stations.

“I will offer you smart phones which will help you protect votes on polling stations. Make sure that after the voting exercise you don’t leave the station until votes have been counted then after you photograph results which will help us in tracking evidence in case of any malpractice,” said Prof. Baryamureeba.

The UTAMU University VC linked vote rigging to the deeply entrenched corruption tendencies in the country, which he said ought to be fought against.

Baryamureeba said that corruption is the major reason for the poor services in the country.

On the education sector, Barya scoffed at the poor products of the government funded Universal primary and secondary education programs.

“From the research I have made, there is nobody who has passed through UPE and USE schools that has Master’s Degree in Medicine,” noted Prof. Baryamureeba

He also mentioned that government needed to help the youth in development stressing that it is the reason why many youths are taken abroad where most end up as sex slaves and others are turned into homosexuals.

If voted in office, Barya said he would put the current youth crisis in the country to an end.
